Introduction

Although the pilot programmes encouraged mentees to utilise the GROW Model, which is highlighted in the Best Practices, the past mentorship programmes put more onus upon the mentees to decide the structure of their sessions. However, from mentee/mentor feedback, and research insights, the toolkit will provide some key recommendations regarding the structure of future ASAP mentorship programmes and for those creating new programs.

The GROW Model

The GROW model is a practical coaching model that you may find helpful in your mentor-mentee relationship to structure your sessions and guide your questions. The aim of the model is to guide the mentor in how best to support a mentee throughout the process of defining a goal relative to where the mentee is currently, exploring various options and obstacles to achieve this goal and finally, establishing the will to accomplish the goal.
